Obituary:
Sean-Francis Kavanaugh Ziegenbein was born in Boston, Mass, March 25, 1997 — born during the nor’easter of 97’, “The Perfect Storm”. He climbed before he could walk, taking his first steps in “Southie” where he lived on Dorchester Street with his mother and father. Sean-Francis first dipped his toes into the ocean at Carson Beach, and rode the “T”, America’s first subway, when he was two weeks old. He was a joyful baby who thrived.

His parents moved from Boston to Northern California when he was three years old. He started preschool in Benicia, California; where he formed his first own friendships. When he was five, he and his mother moved to his mother’s childhood home of Exeter, California where he started kindergarten at Lincoln School.

Many of his early days were spent at his grandparent’s ranch where he loved to be with nature and animals, loved to spend time with his family and swim in the Kaweah River. A blissful childhood.

Sean made many friends attending the schools of Rocky Hill Elementary, Carthay Elementary, Wilson School, Saint John’s Military School, and Fairfax High School, ultimately earning his GED and enrolling in community college at the age of 17. As an adult, Sean continued to foster his love of reading and studying automobiles. His goal was to own an auto-body shop.

As a young child he idolized Martin Luther King Jr. and began reading Malcolm X at 12 years old. This drew him to Islam were he read and fell in love with the Quran. His faith grew and drew him closer to God. Before he was an adult he had converted to Islam and was a faithful servant to God and those he loved in this world. He saved the lives of others and was never afraid to speak truth to power, was always willing to fight evil wherever he found it. He refused to follow the path of conformity and was a passionate fighter of racism and mass incarceration. He stood his ground with courage and conviction. He believed his values and principles would determine his destiny and was a fearless humanitarian.

Sean loved everyone and never had a bad thing to say about even those that disappointed him. He lived and learned the hard way. His faith required that he take the more difficult road knowing he would never be in full control. His duty was always the pursuit of justice for all. Although his death was by accident, his life was full of purpose and his story is not over.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Joseph and Joann Kavanaugh and his beloved “GG,” Marjorie Barclay. He is survived by his loving mother Shana Tashjian (Jeff), his father Joseph Kavanaugh, his brothers Harrison and Trevor Tashjian, sisters Kelsey Tashjian Qualls and Melissa Tashjian, maternal grandparents Dennis and Sharon Ziegenbein and all of his beloved aunts, uncles and cousins.

Please join us to honor Sean as he bridges Earth and Heaven at a Graveside Service at Exeter District Cemetery on Monday, October 9, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. Condolences may be sent to the family at evansmillerguinnchapel.com. Arrangements entrusted to Evans Miller Guinn Chapel.
