Obituary:
It is with the heaviest of hearts that the Quiroz Family share that John Quiroz Jr., 80-years-old, was
delivered into the hands of our lord on April 11 th , 2024.
Born on May 14 th , 1943 and raised in Corpus Christi, Texas, John shared the love of his parents, John Sr.
and Frances Hernandez, with his brother, Al (deceased in 2012) and sister, Mary.
From a very young age, John understood the importance of family. Recognizing the challenges that his
mother experienced with raising children as a single mother, John began working at an early age to help
his mom. As he grew of age, he would spend time with his friends attending bailes (dancing events). At
one of those bailes, John would meet the love of his life, Carrie.
John and Carrie met in 1961. In 1962, John and Carrie began their 62-year old love story—a story that
included their relocation to California, where they would place their roots down in Farmersville. There,
John and Carrie built a life together, focusing on family, the Catholic Church, and community.
John held a strong desire to serve his community. His strong sense of community saw him become a
member of the Farmersville/Exeter Parish Council, Farmersville Chamber of Commerce, Farmersville
School Board of Education, Farmersville Lions Club, President of the Guadalupe Society, and he was
ordained as a Eucharistic Minister at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church.
John committed himself to serve the youth of his community. His efforts included dressing up as Santa
Claus to deliver presents to ensure that every child had a Merry Christmas, co-founding (with Carrie)
Brothers and Sisters United, founding the Farmersville Youth Boxing Club, working at the Goshen YMCA,
serving as the Director of St. Anthony Youth Group and the Farmersville Summer Youth Recreation
Program. Carrie and John’s desire to serve and improve their community was recognized by the
Farmersville Chamber of Commers as Couple of the Year. Additionally, John received a Community
Service Award from the Visalia Police Department for risking his life to save a Visalia Police Officer, who
was being brutalized in a gang-related melee.
While these accomplishments speak to John’s unique character and the importance he placed in his
community, he was unapologetic in his belief that nothing was more important than raising a strong,
grounded family with his soulmate, Carrie.
John is survived by an extensive and still growing family. His children include John III and Noemi Quiroz
of Visalia; Carrie and Jerry Gaytan of Visalia; Judy and Alcario M. Sosaya of Visalia; Bonnie Quiroz of
Visalia; Genevieve Quiroz of Farmersville; Belinda and Gerardo Gomez of Exeter; Lino and Marcie Quiroz
of Visalia; and Monica and Juan Arzola of Visalia.
Additionally, John was blessed with 22 grandchildren and 26 great grandchildren.
John has many beloved cousins, nieces, nephews, and God-children to list or even count.
In lieu of flowers, the Quiroz Family asks that you say a special prayer for: Dr. Sidhu and Dr. Gupta for
their devotion to John’s health and ensuring he was as healthy as he could be; the University of
Colorado doctors and nurses, who cared for John during his last hours; and the Denver airport medical
personnel, Southwest flight attendants, and the two passengers—an emergency room medical doctor
and nurse practitioner, who performed emergency medical procedures on John during his final
moments. These people epitomized John’s life-long commitment to serve others.
